1961 Gibson ES-125 Sunburst
Summary: The ES-125 evolved out of the ES-100 in 1941 and was produced until 1943. Upon its reintroduction in 1946, the ES-125 changed in a number of ways including a wider body, a new P-90 pickup, and trapezoid inlays. The ES-125 was updated again in 1950 with an adjustable P-90 pickup and dot inlays. This particular Gibson ES-125 dates to 1961 and it plays great and the P-90 rocks!
Body: Full hollow body archtop with full binding on the top & the back.
Neck: Mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, 20 frets. This instrument has a scale length of 24.5” and a nut width of 1 11/16”. The frets do show some wear but they still have some life left in them.
Pickups/Hardware: Original P-90 pickup, one volume knob & one tone knob. Replacement tuning keys and a replacement rosewood bridge.
Cosmetics: This vintage Gibson shows a lot of normal wear consistent with an instrument that is over 60 years old. There are several dings and nicks on the body, some scratches and buckle rash on the back, considerable wear on the back of the neck and holes from the original tuning keys are visible on the back of the headstock. This guitar will need a neck reset in the future. THis reflects in the price.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this guitar with a new set of 12s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in good shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard.
Modifications: Non-original tuning keys, replacement rosewood bridge, replacement knobs.
