1956 Gibson ES-225TD
Summary:
This vintage Gibson ES-225 TD is in phenomenal shape for its age
and has just been inspected, setup and restrung by our in-house
guitar tech with a new set of 10s. The original sunburst finish
looks fantastic and has some very fine finish checking throughout the
body. The original bridge section of the tailpiece has been swapped
with a Mojo Axe compensated tailpiece for better intonation and
playability, but all the original hardware is included in the high
quality aftermarket brown Gibson case.
Body:
Laminate maple single Florentine cutaway thin hollow body with cream
binding and sunburst lacquer finish.
Neck:
The mahogany neck has a nice
full C profile, bound Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with the
original frets which are in fantastic shape, pearloid dots, inlayed
Gibson logo, 1 11/16” nut width, 24 3/4” scale length and the
original nut which has never been removed.
Pickups/Hardware:
2 original P90 pickups are controlled by the individual volume
and tone knobs, 3 way toggle and top hat knobs. The bridge portion
of the tailpiece has been swapped out for a compensated Mojo Axe
bridge, the tuners are original but the buttons are changed and it
has the original B/W/B/W pickguard.
Cosmetics:
This guitar is in phenomenal
shape for its age and was definitely taken care of all its life and
rarely played. There is finish checking throughout the body, some
very light pick scratches on the pickguard, small scuffs and minor
dents on the back and sides but no breaks, cracks or visible repairs.
There are 2 creases in the cutaway where you can see the seam
between the side and binding but it is strictly cosmetic. There are
some very shallow dings in the neck, some dings and wear around the
edges of the headstock, some wear around the sides of the headstock
from a peg winder rubbing and a small patch on the back of the neck
way down almost by the heel where the finish has deteriorated a bit.
Playability:
Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung
this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss
rod is fully functioning and the action has been setup low and
comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or
divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard
with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications:
The tuners are original but the
buttons are replaced, the remnants of the old buttons are in the case
as well as the original bridge and some extra strap buttons. Mojo
Axe bridge is installed
