Gibson Les Paul Special 2012 Sunburst
Summary: Although it is referred to as the Les Paul Junior Special, the Special P-90 is far more similar to early Specials than the Junior. The Les Paul Special presents a modern take on the iconic Les Paul Junior featuring two P-90 pickups and these 2 pickups are upgraded Dimarzio DLX Plus Soap Bar pickups. This particular Gibson has a wonderful dark sunburst finish & it was recently set up with a new set of 10’s.
Body: Solid mahogany body with a single cutaway & a satin finish.
Neck: Fully bound mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, 22 frets, 1 11/16” nut width, 24.5” scale length, Kluson Deluxe tuning keys.
Pickups/Hardware: Pickups have been upgraded to Dimarzio DLX Plus soap bar humbuckers. It has a clean and open character with scooped mids and a leaner bass response so low notes sound more defined. Both come with 4-conductor cable for coil-splitting and parallel/phase options. In this case the 2 volume knobs are wired with coil tapping push/pull pots and the neck pickup tone knob is wired with a push/pull pot for an out of phase option. It also has a three-way toggle switch and nickel hardware. Original Gibson Deluxe tuning keys with Tulip buttons.
Cosmetics: The satin finish on this guitar does show some wear but overall, this guitar is in great playing shape. It has a spot where the finish has been buffed a bit from picking, a small chip under the strings in between the pickups, some chips on the neck, edge of the body and headstock edge as well as some various scuffs and scratches consistent with a well-played instrument. The frets show a bit of wear but do not hinder the playability.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications: Pickups have been swapped to Dimarzio DLX Plus Humbuckers and it has strap lock style strap buttons.
