1965 Gibson SG Junior
Summary: In 1961, the Gibson Les Paul Junior model morphed into what we now know as the SG body shape, a sharp double-cutaway guitar which was a drastic departure from the original Les Paul design. This all-mahogany SG Junior sports a single bridge position P-90 pickup, replacement compensated wraparound bridge, and a small pickguard. A new set of period correct tuning keys have been installed and the neck is unbound with dot inlays on the fingerboard.
Body: Mahogany with a Cherry finish.
Neck: Mahogany with a Rosewood fingerboard, 24.75” scale length, 1.685” (1 11/16”) nut width, 22 frets, dot inlays.
Pickups/Hardware: Single dogear P90 pickup in the bridge position, replacement white button tuning keys, replacement compensated wraparound tailpiece, small black pickguard, master volume/master tone controls.
Cosmetics: This guitar is in great vintage condition. It has various necks, dings, and scratches throughout. It has ton of finish checking. The frets show wear up to about the 8th fret. The back of the neck has dings near the 4th & 8th frets (See Photos Please). The headstock has wear around the edges. The pickguard has cracked in a few places where the screws are. The screws have started to rust slightly.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this instrument with a new set of strings. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications: The tuning keys have been replaced with reproduction tuning keys. At one point, some had replaced the tuning keys. On the back of the headstock, you can see where those holes have been filled. The bridge has been replaced. The nut has been replaced with a bone nut.
