1978 BC Rich Mockingbird
Summary: While some guitars are meant for a wide range of musical styles, others have a distinct look and sound that makes them more suited for certain genres than others. First introduced in 1976, the BC Rich Mockingbird quickly took the metal world by storm. In fact, a 2010 issue of Guitar World magazine ranked it as the "the coolest guitar of all time". Another great thing about the BC Rich Mockingbird is that you don't have to be a rock star to own it. This amazing instrument plays great up and down the neck and is a real beast.
Body: Offset double cutaway body with an extended treble bout and a rounded lower bout. The body is maple (neck through) with alder wings.
Neck: Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 24 frets, pearl diamond inlays, 24.5” scale length, 1 9/16” nut width.
Pickups/Hardware: Grover Imperial tuning keys, Bartolini neck pickup, Dimarzio Super Distortion humbucker in the bridge position, 4 control knobs/3 way pickup selector/4 dip switches, chrome hardware.
Cosmetics: There are some chips in the finish on the back of the neck and on the body. There is finish that has come off near where the strap would rub against the body. There is light buckle rash on the back of the body. There are signs of the original posts that have since been replaced with the toaster bridge. There is a lot of natural wear around the edges of the guitar and the headstock.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications: The two pickups are both replacements and the toaster bridge is a replacement. Underneath the bridge, you can see where the old holes have been filled in and new holes have been made for the toaster bridge. The electronics are working but the guitar has been re-wired and is not the way it was originally designed (see photos). The varitone switch has been replaced and now is a tone roll off knob.
Weight: 7 lbs, 13 oz.
Case: This vintage BC Rich comes with the original hardshell case and we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured.
