1998 Martin HD-28
Summary: The Martin HD-28 Standard Dreadnought acoustic guitar is the re-creation of Martin's legendary Herringbone D-28 guitar (released in 1946). It has a Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard. Vintage appointments include herringbone top trim, a traditional zigzag back strip, and Martin's famous scalloped X-bracing that allows the top to vibrate more freely, yielding a louder, more open tone. Martin's HD-28 Standard Dreadnought acoustic guitar epitomizes the sound of an acoustic guitar. Famous for its legendary full-bodied tone and volume, the Martin HD-28 has been the industry standard since 1931. This Martin HD-28 has cracks on the top and sides that have been professionally repaired and it still sounds great.
Body: Sitka Spruce top with East Indian Rosewood back/sides, Herringbone trim, nitrocellulose gloss finish.
Neck: Solid Mahogany with an Ebony fingerboard, 25.4” scale length, 1.75” nut width, 20 total frets (14 open frets), low oval shape.
Pickups/Hardware: East Indian Rosewood headplate, closed gear tuning keys, bone nut/saddle, Ebony bridge, under the saddle pickup.
Cosmetics: This guitar has been professionally repaired. There are at least three cracks on the top that have been cleated. There are three cracks on the sides of the body that have also been cleated. The top of the body near the pickguard has been worn down into the wood where someone has been strumming hard (See Photos Please). There are minor chips in the finish throughout on the body. The back of the neck has some small chips in the finish with a few dents here and there. The frets appear to be in good shape and slightly flatten out going towards the nut coming from the sound hole. Cosmetically this guitar isn’t in great shape, but it still sounds fantastic.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this guitar with a new set of 12’s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications: An under the saddle pickup has been added. Cracks on the top/sides of the body have been professionally repaired.
Weight: 4.940 lbs.
Case: This guitar ships in a non-original hardshell case, professionally packaged, and fully insured.
