2020 Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop '57 Wildwood Spec Goldtop
Summary: From Wildwood Guitars: “Wildwoodians, we are proud to present you with a true exemplar of the Gold Standard: A Wildwood Spec reissue of the legendary 1957 Les Paul Standard. These Midas-kissed beauties feature a host of true-to-vintage appointments that give them the sort of tone that haunts the dreams of Les Paul enthusiasts.
Everything starts with quality tonewoods--warm, round-sounding mahogany and crisp, clear maple, and a sweet-sounding rosewood fretboard. Once they pick out some good-sounding wood, the master luthiers at the Gibson Custom Shop attach everything together using hot hide glue. Using hide glue is a time-consuming old-world manufacturing technique that pays incredible sonic dividends because it creates the strongest possible connection between each piece of wood to build as much resonance as possible. That means that these pretty golden girls sing loud and proud even when unplugged!
When you do plug in, you will be amazed at how well the natural acoustic voice of these instruments translates to huge, electrified tone. Each one comes equipped with Custom Shop humbuckers that seem to capture all our favorite parts of old pickups. Warm, woody low end, raspy, punchy midrange, and sweet, singing high end. If vintage-style punch 'n' crunch is your thing, you will find yourself utterly enamored with the sound of the Wildwood Spec '57 Standard.”
Body: Chambered mahogany with a carved maple top attached with hot hide glue, single-ply cream binding.
Neck: Chunky “C” Mahogany, Rosewood fingerboard attached with hot hide glue, 22 frets, 24.75” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width, cellulose trapezoid inlays.
Pickups/Hardware: Two custom buckers wound to Wildwood specs, two volume/two tone knobs, nickel ABR-1 bridge and lightweight aluminum stopbar, Kluson deluxe tuning keys, pickguard included, vintage accurate plastic parts.
Cosmetics: This guitar is in excellent condition. The bridge, tailpiece, and pickup covers are lightly tarnished. There is one tiny ding on the back of the headstock near the low “E” tuning key.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.
