Gibson Firebird III Non-Reverse 1965 Sunburst
Summary: This 1965 Gibson Non-Reverse Firebird III is a great player with a
pro refret, new bone nut, 3 mighty sounding P90s and tons of finish checking in the original sunburst finish. Our in-house luthier has just inspected, set-up and restrung this bird with a new set of 10 gauge strings and set the action low and comfortable. It does not come with the original case but we will ship it in an aftermarket hardshell case.
Body: Solid mahogany non-reverse Firebird with the original sunburst finish and it is topped with the original w/b/w pickguard.
Neck: It has a slim 60s mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays, 1 9/16” nut width and 24 3/4” scale length. The fret size is 0.110" X 0.050".
Pickups/Hardware: It has the original P90 pickups and all original electronics, 3-way switch, 2 volume, 2 tones, original Kluson Deluxe tuners with white buttons, bone nut, short Maestro Vibrola unit with arm and aftermarket bridge installed but the original bridge is in the case.
Cosmetics: This Firebird has been played quite a bit and has lots of little nicks and dings around the whole instrument to show. It was never abused nor has it suffered any structural cracks or breaks. There is plenty of finish checking around the whole guitar, lots of wear through the finish around the edges of the body, lots of wear on the sides of the neck and some minor buckle rash and various scratches on the body. There are a few cracks in the pickguard around the screw holes and a chip missing out of one edge of the pickguard. There are string slots filed into the original bridge which is likely why it was replaced and retired to the case. When we took the guitar apart to verify its originality we found the pickup bobbins are a little warped and cracked in the middle but they still function perfectly. They are just a bit fragile as these old pickups are known to be. (See pictures)
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functioning and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Weight: 7 lbs, 6 oz.
Case: It ships in an aftermarket case and we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!
