Gibson Les Paul Junior 1955 Sunburst
Summary: The Gibson Les Paul Junior has become one of the most desired
instruments in the world & at Empire Guitars – we can't seem to keep them on the wall. This simple & wonderful guitar has been professionally re-fretted with jumbo frets and recently set up and restrung with 10s by our in-house luthier. It has lots of beautiful finish checking, wear around the edges, and small dings but no major cosmetic blemishes or headstock breaks. This Gibson is a really special one and thanks to that refret is quite the player! Ships in a high quality brown Gator case.
Body: Mahogany single cutaway slab body. Yellow to brown sunburst finished top, brown back and neck finish. Gibson logo and "Les Paul Junior" silkscreened on headstock in gold.
Neck: One-piece mahogany neck with a chunky soft V profile, Brazillian rosewood fretboard, pearloid dot inlays, dot fret inlays. 24.75” scale, 1.690” nut width, Gibson logo and "Les Paul Junior" silkscreened on headstock in gold. It has jumbo frets and a new bone nut.
Pickups/Hardware: 1 original P-90 pickup with black cover. The bridge is a nicely aged replica, as are the tuners, Kluson three-in-line strip tuners with plastic buttons. One volume and one tone control with gold top-hat knobs. Single-ply black pickguard.
Cosmetics: This vintage guitar has lots of nicks and dings. There is a lot of beautiful checking going on throughout the guitar but there are no structural problems or breaks in this instrument. One stud has been moved (see photos) and the bridge is non-original. There are some repaired minor cracks and yellow touch up where the original bridge pulled forward. There are lots of gashes and dings on the face of the headstock and there is a big patch of finish worn off the back of the neck. Overall, this guitar is in pretty great shape for its age and has held up really well throughout its rock and roll life.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functioning and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The refret was professionally done and they are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications: This guitar was professionally refretted with jumbo fretwire, the pots, jack and capacitor have been changed but the original parts are included in the case. The tuners have also been changed to aged Kluson Deluxes. There are a few spots around the edges that have been touched up with a little black paint. The color matches pretty well which makes it really hard to notice. It was clearly done a long time ago and most of it is worn off. The bass side stud has been moved back about 1/16” to help with intonation and there is some touch up paint on that area as well as on the treble side stud where the bridge pulled forward and was repaired. The original nut has been replaced with a bone nut.
Weight: 7 lbs, 3 oz.
Case: This vintage Gibson Junior comes with an aftermarket brown Gator hardshell case with pink plush interior & we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!
