This 50’s Kay L4113 has a lot of style. Back in the day you could buy a guitar like this one from a Sears and Roebuck or Montgomery Ward catalog. They were a dime a dozen and the first guitar of many at the time. Though this Kay doesn’t sound like a Martin or a Taylor, it has a unique voice and quite a lot of volume despite it’s small size. Though the action is on the high side this instrument sounds great and is a perfect fit for blues and Americana alike.

Body: Hard to tell the body wood of this guitar, the sides are painted with a sort of faux-Flame Maple pattern. The white binding is also painted on, as is the music-note pick guard.

Neck: Maple neck with a Maple fingerboard, Brass frets, painted on block inlays.

Pickups/Hardware: open gear tuners, Kay-stamped steel tailpiece, wood bridge.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in good condition. It has surface scratches on the top and back of the body. The back of the neck is clean, and the frets show minimal wear. The string height on this guitar is quite high and we’ve mostly been playing slide on it around the shop. Though this Kay’s seen better days, it’s got a unique voice that we’re quite a fan of.

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this instrument with a new set of strings. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been set-up low and comfortable.

Weight: 4 lbs. 2 oz.

Case: This guitar ships without a case, professionally packaged, and fully insured.
